Over the last year, our students sat more than 80 exams and assessments, our highest number ever, including GCSEs, Functional Skills and BTEC qualifications. We’re incredibly proud that our overall pass rate was 92%.
That number matters. But it’s not really what this post is about.
For so many of our students, this journey didn’t start in a classroom. It started with simply finding the courage to walk through our doors. Some had been told that school wasn’t for them. Some had stopped believing they could do this at all.
This year, we watched those same students find the courage to sit their exams, resit when they needed to, and refuse to give up on themselves.
And while we are incredibly proud of everyone who achieved the results they were hoping for, we also believe something fundamentally important: your exam results do not define you, and one day in the year should never define your future.
If you didn’t get the result you wanted, the world hasn’t stopped. There are other routes, other opportunities and other chances to succeed.
At Gateways, we see this year after year. Young people take exams when they are ready, resit when they need to, discover new strengths and find opportunities at different points in their journey.
Sometimes, a different route is the route that leads you exactly where you need to go.
That is what we want for every young person: not one single moment that determines their future, but multiple chances to reset, try again, change direction and discover what they are capable of.
This is what’s possible when someone refuses to give up on you.
Here’s to everything that comes next.
